The Dis4Food Project
Dis4Food, an ERASMUS+ funded project, aspires to ensure that dietitians will become part of the digital disruption in diet and food. The project brings together food data experts from the Laboratory of Food Chemistry & Analysis of the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), and dietitians from the European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians (EFAD) to join forces in equipping dietitians with essential digital skills in food data literacy.
The project’s primary objective is to design an interactive training curriculum that familiarizes dietitians with various food data infrastructures, including existing food composition databases, data quality standards, and the EU food data ecosystems. By leveraging digital tools and resources, “Dis4food” seeks to enhance dietitians’ proficiency in employing food data and increase their confidence in utilizing open-access resources. With a special focus on reaching dietitians in remote regions (rural and islandic areas), and an aim to engage dietitians beyond Northern & Central Europe, ‘Dis4food’ strives to ensure that all dietitians, regardless of their location, have access to high-quality training opportunities.
The kick-off meeting in Athens
The official “Dis4food” kick-off meeting took place in Athens on April 9, 2024, signalling the beginning of an exciting journey towards transforming dietetic education and practice in the digital age. Partners from the Agricultural University of Athens and EFAD joined their forces to set the stage for planning “Dis4Food” training over the next two years. AUA was represented by Prof. Maria Kapsokefalou, Project Coordinator, Dr Antonis Vlassopoulos, “Dis4Food” Project Manager and Stefania Xanthopoulou Research Officer, while EFAD was represented by Dr Grigoris Risvas, EFAD Honorary Vice President, and Dr Katarzyna Janiszewska, EFAD Lead in Project Management and “Dis4Food” Officer.
